State Fair hopes for best, prepares for worst"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section bb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.92&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;2px|0px|37.9062px|0px&#8221;][et_pb_row custom_padding=&#8221;0px|0px|18.9531px|0px&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;10px|||&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.92&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;2_3&#8243;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;News Story&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.15&#8243; custom_margin=&#8221;0px||0px|&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Opening day at the South Carolina State Fair is always $1 admission day and reports of an impending storm didn\u2019t stop excited patrons from lining up hours before the gates opened.<\/p>\n<p>Fairgoers were met with less than favorable weather conditions when they walked through the gates today as heavy rains pounded the fairgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m actually surprised we have so many people already,\u201d said Whitney Carter, a fair staff member. Carter also noted that even with the rain\u00a0lines were comparable to previous years.<\/p>\n<p>Hurricane Michael, which hit the Florida coast as a category 4 hurricane Wednesday, is already having projected to bring high winds and significant rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>South Carolina State Fair officials say that though the Midlands are expected to see some effects from the storm, they don&#8217;t expect the storm to extensively dampen fair festivities and attendance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs with everything at the fair, patron safety is our number one concern,\u201d said Nancy Smith, general manager for the fair. \u201cSome things we have control over but weather is not one of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the event of an emergency situation, fair officials have a public address system that they can use to notify fairgoers to go inside and seek shelter. Should winds reach dangerous speeds, rides will be shut down.<\/p>\n<p>Carousel Food Services, which has multiple food trucks at the fair, has a partnership with Storm Services, a Georgia-based company, that provides\u00a0food for service members when a\u00a0natural disaster strikes.<\/p>\n<p>Blake Rease, the manager for Carousel food trucks, says that the company has sent some employees to help with hurricane relief, but the absences will not have an impact on the fair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019ll just rain the next couple days and maybe slow it down,\u201d Rease said. \u201cWe\u2019ll be good for the weekend; the rain won\u2019t stop us.
