Voter Commission.\u00a0<\/span>But among the 18 to 24-year-old age group it\u2019s increased by 6.7%.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-15347 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/carolinanewsandreporter.cic.sc.edu\/test\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-11-27-at-8.36.37-AM-133x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"465\" \/>\u201cThe issues and the candidates drive voter interest, but I think what\u2019s different in 2018 is that you have so many national organizations that are really driving voter registration,\u201d Whitmire said.<\/p>\n<p>Groups such as\u00a0Facebook are using their platforms\u00a0to engage young voters, sending out notifications on each state\u2019s voter registration deadline to remind users to register to vote.<\/p>\n<p>Organizations on college campuses are also trying to encourage more of their students to become engaged in politics. USC recently formed an on-campus group called the Civic Learning Education and Action Team to try and enhance year-round civic education and action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that working with the College Republicans and the College Libertarians we\u2019ve really done good on this campus, and we\u2019ve given people a reason to vote,\u201d said Logan Martin, president of College Democrats at USC. \u201cA lot of young people just feel like their vote doesn\u2019t matter, and that\u2019s not necessarily the case because obviously every vote matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The website Wallet Hub ranked all 50 states and the District of Columbia on voter engagement and found South Carolina to have one of the lowest rankings, falling in at 40th.
