They have lived in the house for more than 10 years.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.92&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;2px|0px|37.9062px|0px&#8221; prev_background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;][et_pb_row custom_padding=&#8221;0px|0px|18.9531px|0px&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;10px|||&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.92&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;2_3&#8243;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;News Story&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.17.6&#8243; custom_margin=&#8221;0px||0px|&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Patricia Moore-Pastides&#8217; favorite holiday tradition is the prayer that starts every Thanksgiving dinner.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe always would start out the meal with a prayer and then everyone would go around the room and say what they\u2019re thankful for,\u201d said Moore-Pastides, the first lady of the University of South Carolina.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When USC football plays Clemson at home, you could find 15 to 20 people in USC&#8217;s President\u2019s House for Thanksgiving. Because this year\u2019s game is at Clemson, the Pastides will be traveling to their daughter\u2019s house in California. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">President Harris Pastides announced earlier this year that he will be retiring as president in July, making this the couple&#8217;s last year in the President\u2019s House on the historic Horseshoe &#8211; a house they have lived in for 10 years. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen it\u2019s just Harris and I, it can feel a little like we\u2019re living in a museum,\u201d said Moore-Pastides. \u201cWhen you get all those bedrooms filled up, it\u2019s really fun to have the family here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the first floor is a grand dining room big enough to entertain a plethora of guests. The second floor starts their apartment, where the kitchen is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When they do host Thanksgiving, everyone takes multiple trips up and down the stairs to bring the food to the dining room table. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cage free turkey from Doko Farms, stuffing and sweet potatoes can be found at their Thanksgiving dinners. But also, there is a unique dish that has been served on the Pastides\u2019 table for over 30 years. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI have a signature soup that I have every year,\u201d said Moore-Pastides. \u201cIt\u2019s curried butternut squash soup. Maybe it\u2019s because we\u2019re from New England where it\u2019s colder, soup always seemed like a good way to start the meal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although Moore-Pastides likes to maintain a healthy lifestyle when it comes to cooking, baking pies is one of her favorite things to do for the holiday season. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRolling a pie crust just feels so homey,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd of course, homemade whipped cream, nothing from a can. I do have a sweet tooth after all, so I do like the pies.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moore-Pastides\u2019 favorite dish is the pie while her granddaughter, Alice, raves over the mushrooms. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cShe had Grandparents Day at her school last year,\u201d said Moore-Pastides. \u201cThey had to fill out a form that said \u2018What\u2019s a special thing that your grandmother does for you,\u2019 and she said, \u2018She makes me mushrooms.\u2019\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food seems to be the focus of the holiday but with the family spread around the country, Moore-Pastides values when her family is all together and they can share their Thanksgiving prayers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNow we cry because we\u2019re in the last third of our lives,\u201d she said. \u201cWe can really look back and see what shaped us. We\u2019ve suffered a little bit with loss.
