Fun and quirky shoes are having a\u00a0moment. <\/em>Maybe the wilting Southern heat is to blame, but young adults are trading in their cute outfits for T-shirts and Nike shorts. Since it\u2019s easy to conform to the comfortable, many have decided to express their personal style through the unlikely, and often underestimated, staple \u2014 footwear.<\/p>\n

Whether it\u2019s chunky sneakers, colorful Vans or black boots, people are telling their personal stories through shoes. Because, why wouldn\u2019t they? Shoes can accent minimalist jeans, dress down elegant outfits and add personality to the ever so popular T-shirts and Nike shorts. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"GirlUniversity of South Carolina marine science student Emma Jackson is wearing black Dr. Martens sandals and said they\u2019re the most comfortable shoes she owns.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsually it\u2019s really cutesy and girly, but these are my edgy shoes,\u201d Jackson said about her style.<\/p>\n

Public health student Jada Bouknight describes herself as an urban dresser and is wearing black slide-on Vans with flames on the sides.<\/p>\n

She got them at an outlet store on sale during a Myrtle Beach visit.<\/p>\n

\"Vans\"\u201cI like Vans because I really like canvas shoes. I don\u2019t really like sneaker sneakers,\u201d Bouknight said.<\/p>\n

Nursing student Kaylin Bluefort is wearing Jordan 1 Reverse New Loves on her walk from class with Bouknight.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I first seen \u2018em I just knew that I had to get \u2018em. They\u2019re very vintage,\u201d Bluefort said.<\/p>\n

\"GirlsBluefort said she collects them and is up to eight pairs. She said her style leans towards athletic streetwear and urban looks.<\/p>\n

\"GirlAdvertising student Anne Heiler said she thrifts for all her clothes and is wearing white cutout patterned sneakers with checkered pants. Heiler is from Columbia, so she said she knew all the best thrift stores before starting school at USC.<\/p>\n

Kodi Gaffney works at APB, a sneaker store in the Vista, and is wearing clay green and white Air Jordan 1s. Gaffney collects Air Jordans, however, he said he mostly wears loafers.<\/p>\n

\"Guy\u201cHonestly if I didn\u2019t work here, I wouldn\u2019t wear sneakers at all,\u201d Gaffney said.<\/p>\n

Visual communications student Caroline Callicutt is sporting trendy chunky Filas in lavender, her favorite color.<\/p>\n

\"GirlCalicutt described her style as eccentric and unique.<\/p>\n

\u201cCause I just kind of wear whatever I like no matter if it\u2019s cute or not,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Art studio student Mazie Cook got her black combat style boots in California while visiting the majestic redwood forests. She\u00a0loves these boots because they\u2019re an easy staple, they go with anything and make things a little bit edgier.<\/p>\n

\"Girl\u201cThese got chewed up by some doggies so they have a little extra love on them,\u201d Cook said.<\/p>\n

Patrick Lawson joined Cook for some cold brew at Drip in Five Points wearing blue and white Vans. Lawson said he\u2019s been wearing Vans since he was a kid because he grew up skateboarding.<\/p>\n

\"Guy\u201cI just try to be comfortable,\u201d he said. \u201cSorta look nice because that\u2019s what my mom wants me to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
