USC’s Greek Village hosted its 18th annual Trick-or-Treat event on Tuesday, Oct. 28, welcoming families from across Columbia for a night filled with candy, costumes and community spirit.
The event gives local children a safe place to celebrate Halloween while allowing USC’s fraternities and sororities to give back.
“Just seeing all the kids happy, giving back it’s easy. We aren’t getting paid to be out here, it’s just fun,” said Davis Woods from Sigma Nu fraternity.
Safety is a major reason many families continue to return each year. The event takes place in an enclosed area on USC’s campus, where campus police are present to ensure a secure trick-or treating experience.
Parents say the setting allows their kids to enjoy Halloween traditions without the usual stress.
Organizers say that the spirit of fun and community has helped the event grow year after year, with more chapters joining and families attending.
“Our chapters and all of Greek Village have gotten bigger, all four councils. Reaching out to the community is important to us, and the community gets excited about it,” said event organizer Emerson Lewis.
Eighteen years later, the candy is still sweet; the costumes are still creative, and the connection between USC students and Columbia families remains just as strong.
