Shoppers can find what they need to explore outdoors — and lower prices — at the new Sierra retail store location in Columbia.
Sierra, the outdoor and activewear retailer owned by TJX Companies, opened its first store in the capital city last month — bringing with it bargains on name-brand gear and apparel.
The new store set up shop in the Columbiana Station shopping center Oct. 18, joining the lineup of existing TJX brands in the Harbison area, including T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods.
Similar to its sister companies, Sierra is known for being an off-price retailer, meaning it sells name-brand merchandise at a significant discount, said Columbia content creator Brooke Smith.
“Prices at Sierra reminded me of prices at T.J. Maxx, but with clothes that are more outdoor tailored,” said Smith, who posts lifestyle videos on TikTok.
Customers can expect a variety of deals on more than 100 great brands such as Carhartt, The North Face, Arc’teryx and Free People Movement.
Smith ended up buying a pair of Democracy jeans on her visit that normally cost $78 , but were marked down to $34.99 at Sierra.
The storefront took over the space that was formerly Bed Bath and Beyond.
Local micro-influencer Alexis McGill said she is absolutely excited to see the new addition to the Harbison area.
“I have lived in the Harbison area for eight years and there have been so many vacant storefronts,” McGill said. “I am happy for any opportunity to have a new store near me versus having to drive to Lexington or Northeast Columbia.”
There are nearly 140 Sierra locations around the country. Sierra has had locations in South Carolina, in Anderson and Greenville.
The Sierra in Columbia is eager to continue providing quality outdoor apparel that won’t break customers’ bank accounts, said Amanda Johnson, the chain’s assistant vice president and marketing director.
“We’re excited to bring Sierra’s off-price shopping experience to Columbia residents following the warm welcome in Greenville at the end of last year,” Johnson said in a statement. “At Sierra, our goal is to help individuals enjoy their active lifestyles stress-free. With incredible prices on premium apparel, footwear and gear, Sierra allows people to embrace the activities they love most while staying true to their budget.”
