A year after falling short on the biggest stage, South Carolina returned with one goal in mind—redemption.

And this time, they got it.

The Gamecocks took down the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed, Connecticut, 62–48, snapping the Huskies’ 54-game winning streak that stretched back 476 days.

Once the game tipped off, the intensity only grew.

South Carolina imposed its will defensively, turning the matchup into a physical, grind-it-out battle. Neither team found much rhythm offensively, but the Gamecocks were able to control the pace.

Despite shooting just 38% from the field, South Carolina spread the scoring around, with four players reaching double figures.

Ta’Niya Latson led the way with 16 points.

Two of the Huskies’ biggest stars, Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong, were limited throughout the night, combining for just 20 points on 22.6% shooting.

South Carolina’s defensive pressure forced tough looks and disrupted UConn’s usual rhythm.

With the win, South Carolina advances to the national championship game, keeping alive their pursuit of another title under head coach Dawn Staley.

Now in her 18th season, Staley has built one of the most dominant programs in women’s college basketball—and is now one win away from adding a fourth national championship to her resume.

The South Carolina Gamecocks take on the UCLA Bruins on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. EST.
