A tractor trailer caught fire around noon Thursday on I-26 East in northern Calhoun County.

The right lane of the eastbound interstate between Columbia and Orangeburg is closed until further notice.

The closure comes as commuters hit the road home from work on a busy stretch of interstate.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Calhoun County Fire Department were at the scene.

The fire department couldn’t be reached for comment by 4 p.m.
