South Carolina’s football season ended with a 4–8 record and a 28–14 loss to Clemson, leaving head coach Shane Beamer and fans frustrated and looking ahead to major changes.
“I’m sick as heck about this feeling right now,” Beamer said after the loss. “I’m going to look at everything – the film, the entire staff, and do what I need to do to elevate this program.”
With drastic roster changes and major firings on the coaching staff, there is plenty of offseason work for Beamer. And, with the transfer portal opening Jan. 2, questions remain about the future of star quarterback LaNorris Sellers. When asked whether he plans to return, Sellers said he will make his decision “when the time comes” and will choose “whatever is best for me.”
While the team prepares for a rebuild on the field, Williams-Brice Stadium is undergoing one of the largest renovations in school history. The $350 million “Williams-Brice Reimagined” project began after the Palmetto Bowl and is scheduled for full completion before the 2027 season. Major upgrades focus on fan experience, premium seating and student-athlete facilities.
A new preview center allows season ticket holders to view proposed seating changes. Drew Turner, the university’s vice president of premium seating, said staff members are meeting individually with fans to discuss changing seating options.
“People are going to have an easier time getting around, going to the restroom, getting food, and getting back to their seats,” Turner said.
Fan-experience upgrades—including expanded concourses, more bathrooms and concession stands, and an indoor space for students—are expected to be finished before the 2026 season.
The university launched the renovation following a 2024 survey of more than 5,600 fans, 94% of whom said they believe stadium improvements were important. Turner said the project aims to modernize the stadium without sacrificing its atmosphere.
As for Gamecock football, Beamer said he is confident the program will rebound.
“Because of the success we’re going to have next season, we’ll look back and say this season was tough, but it led us to what we did in 2026,” he said.
