The Summer Concert Series kicked off in early June and will continue through July 28.

The City of Columbia’s Summer Concert Series kicked off in early June and continues through July 28 with five concerts planned on Saturday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m.

This summer, Columbia’s department of Parks and Recreation has brought back Karaoke Idol, which gives guests the opportunity to showcase their talents. City spokeswoman, Shireese Bell, said the department decided to bring the feature back because of its popularity.

Bell says part of the program’s success is due to the performing artists.

“We showcase artists that you may not always hear on the radio now,” she said. “It also makes people remember good days, back when they were in high school or college. It’s a great series that brings the community together.”

Depending on which artist is performing, a concert may attract up to 3,000 guests, Bell said.

This year’s Summer Concert Series lineup includes:

  • June 16 – Second Nature (Beach)
  • June 30 – Elliott & The Untouchables (Blues)
  • July 14– The Dazz Band (R&B/Funk)
  • July 28– Confunkshun (R&B/Funk)

All concerts are free and open to the public, and guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs,  blankets and coolers.
