COLUMBIA, SC – President Donald Trump was in town Monday evening to endorse South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, who is seeking his first full term.

Thousands of supporters – and protesters – were expected at the rally at Airport High School.

Vendors like Jonas Williams were at the school as early as 9 a.m. Monday to make sure they had a great spot to sell their merchandise.

“The turnout will be into the tens of thousands,” Williams said.

Trump’s endorsement of McMaster is expected to give McMaster a leg up in the Republican run-off primary Tuesday against John Warren.

“It’s definitely a big push to get McMaster elected… re-elected, and also, just to be able to bring the good economy back to South Carolina,” Williams said.

On Monday law enforcement officers positioned cones to direct protesters to designated areas.

Guests began filling the immediate area around the school at 4 p.m., and those who wanted to attend had to in their spots by 6 p.m. before the rally officially kicked off at 7 p.m.
